The symbolic image

Symbolic illustration of the Stomach meridian in Chinese medicine

Think of the Stomach as a cauldron that is always simmering: it receives whatever is given to it — food, but also the emotions of daily life — and transforms it into usable energy.

How it works in the Chinese model

Emotional dimension

The Stomach also symbolises the capacity to welcome and “digest” a situation. Worry and excessive overthinking affect the Stomach in particular: these emotional states can cause Qi stagnation, producing symptoms such as persistent heartburn, belching and nausea.

In daily life

Regular meals, eaten calmly at fixed times, with warm or hot foods that suit you and thorough chewing: these are the simplest foundations for protecting the Stomach. The body follows a natural rhythm of Qi circulation, which irregular meals disrupt; your emotional state while eating matters just as much, since eating under stress or sadness favours stagnation of Stomach Qi.

In practice

The Stomach meridian is central in TCM, ensuring not only the physical digestion of food but also the management of emotions and stress. Maintaining its balance is essential for optimal health, both physically and emotionally.
