The symbolic image

Symbolic illustration of the Lung meridian in Chinese medicine

The Lung can be imagined as an open door between the body and the outside world. It receives air from outside, transforms it into energy (the Qi of the air), then helps that Qi descend and circulate through the body.

How it works in the Chinese model

The Lung also governs the skin: it regulates sweating and protects against external attacks such as cold, wind or germs.

Emotional dimension

The Lung is associated with sadness and grief. It has the capacity to part with what has ended, so we can move on. A harmonious Lung symbolises full, ample breathing, a good ability to adapt, and a capacity to let go of what needs to leave — just as it breathes air out.

When this dynamic is disrupted

In case of excess (fullness)

In case of deficiency (emptiness)

In daily life

Breathing deeply, getting fresh air, walking in nature, and giving yourself the time to grieve the things, small or large, that need to be let go.

In practice

The Lung meridian is much more than a simple respiratory organ. It is the body’s Prime Minister, the link between the inner and outer world, influencing our vital energy, our immunity and our emotional balance. By taking care of this meridian, we support better breathing, radiant skin and deep emotional stability.
