Apple-Pear Compote with Sesame & Walnuts

Ingredients

Method

  1. Peel the apples and pear, and cut them into pieces.
  2. Add the water and cinnamon, cover and cook over low heat for 15 min.
  3. Mash roughly, keeping a few chunks.
  4. Add the walnuts and sesame seeds.
  5. Serve warm.

TCM perspective: Cooking the fruit makes it better suited to the autumn logic of warm, easy-to-digest food. Sesame is traditionally used to nourish Yin and moisten Dryness, while pear and apple bring a juicier quality.

Tips & precautions: A very simple snack to replace biscuits and dry foods, particularly in keeping with the TCM principle of countering autumn Dryness.

These are general principles of Chinese dietetics and do not replace personalised medical advice.
